Every year in Cannon Beach the seals swm through. For about a three week period this happens and during that time the Mothers bring their pups onto the land at the early hours of the morning and leave them on shore to go fishing. During the day the Pup, stomach full of milk, waits, usually staying in one place. That night the Mother comes back. If she was unsucessful in her hunt she feeds the Pup and goes back out to sea. If she ate her fill the mother and child continue their swim North. A Pup rarely spends more than two nights on shore.
This Pup was left on shore for five days. Every night the Mother came and fed it, leaving it again before the sun rose. I worked for Haystack Rock Awareness Program, and every few hours my boss and I would drive the truck down to make sure it hadn't been harmed; it's a touristy place and not every one sees the signs we place saying to put thier dogs on a leash as the pass the Pup, and not to touch or hassle it.
It was soooo cute though. If any one got to close it would turn around and try to follow you.
Thanks! And I know! We eventually moved the Pup farther down the beach where there were less people because we thought the mother wouldn't come get it...it wasn't being fed those last two nights XO After we moved it the mother came the next day and took it home. (Aww...)

I became insane with long intervals of horrible Sanity.
It was fun watching over it. You'd be surprised how stupid people can be with them too. Once some one tried taking it home, but some one saw them carrying into their hotel room and called the police. And last year some ones dog attacked one...it was dying so they took it to a rehab center. I think they're releasing it this year. It didn't get to go home with mom last year, it was so injured.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
